Carl Haynes
I am a self taught photographer who is blessed to live in the North East of England. The scenery at times is spectacular and there are endless photo opportunites. A lot of my work comes from both the local area and from my travels - so you will see quite a mix of images. I don't have a particular 'style' - I take photos of what appeals to me at the time - sometimes they come off, sometimes they don't. I am still new to photography having only purchased my first Digital SLR about 2 years ago.
My biggest achievement to date is winning first place in the National Bing Photography Competition. Out of 8,500 photos my photo was selected as winner in the 'Your Britain' competition with a prize of £10,000 and my image featured on the bing.com home page. The judges included Dizzee Rascal, Alan Sparrow (Picture editor of Metro Metro Newspaper), Ben Drury (Art Director and Dizzee Rascal collaborator) and Pleaseance Coddington (Writer and Tourism Expert from Visit Britain).
I was also a runner up with 'Fancy a Race?' in the 'Port of Tyne - Reflect Awards' held at the BALTIC art gallery in Newcastle. The winning image is on display in Newcastle Library from 26th May until 23rd June 2011.
I am also a self taught artist specialising in pop art images. My inspiration comes from movies, Hollywood icons, and musicians. All of my artwork is handrawn straight onto canvas, then painted one layer at a time. I have original artwork available to buy as well as prints. In addition, I have been commissioned on many occasions to paint children, family pets, and friends.
